I have many reasons to throw away my phone but do any of us
know that how dependable we have become to such devices and gadgets in our
life? I will also say it’s as a fashion or we are just addicted to cell phones.
In India, every
person I met while crossing a small street was on this cell phone or text
messaging someone or just listening to music. By God’s Grace, those parents of
such teenagers or some parents, teachers, working class men/women were able to
afford such heavily priced cell phones around the world. People buy these cell
phones out of maintaining status, ego and self esteem or to just love to keep
such gadgets. I am a gadget fan and would love to buy all of them if possible,
but eventually, we all are becoming a bunch of fools.
Though cell phones have their part to play in our life, but
they do nasty things which we can simply get rid. As we all enter the
electronic and computer age, people are just too busy or are just need some
flexibility to reach their colleagues, business clients, customers, families or
friends. Cell phone makes it all possible to do business in this computer era.
But necessity and fashion are two different areas in our life. We can have a
free flip phone for our daily purpose, but then people will like to have Smart
phone or Blackberry to maintain their self esteem among friends and family.
Cell phones are expensive when we choose one that has the
following features:- SMS, MMS, Photo text messaging, email, GPS, MP3, radio,
camera, Windows mobile, Social Community and many others. A person can be
better off with such features and if we try to look carefully, these stuffs are
not really needed. Cell phone plans are expensive too and in this economic
crisis, people need to budget their requirements. Moreover, there is a huge
business competition among cell phone service providers and cell manufacturers
like Samsung, Apple, Nokia, LG, Sony, RIM etc. Again, service providers make us
sign contract which lasts for maximum of two years and they go without any
contracts. So when one pre-maturely ends the contract, will have to pay
penalty, which is not in-expensive. Service providers have special discount and
free phones when person upgrades service, plans or extends contracts. But then
person will have to pay high price when buying a phone without a contract.
Human psychology is pretty much unpredictable as it asks for
more and once we get them, we keep craving for more. So can we keep our requirements and greed
low? Can we be happy with what we have in life? What can keep a human mind
satisfied without these gadgets?
