Obesity is something almost all of us experience after we reach wrong side of forty. An average Indian boasts (?) of a healthy pot belly. In fact it is rare to find a man who does not have a weight problem.
In scientific terms obesity is a medical condition in which excess body fat has accumulated to the extent that it may have an adverse effect on health, leading to reduced life expectancy and/or increased health problems.
Obesity increases the likelihood of various diseases, particularly heart disease, type-2 diabetes, breathing difficulties during sleep, certain types of cancer, and osteoarthritis. Obesity is most commonly caused by a combination of excessive dietary calories, lack of physical activity, and genetic susceptibility, although a few cases are caused solely by genes, endocrine disorders, medications or psychiatric illness.
Who does not want to have shiny and silky hair? Every one of us desire
have silky shiny hair but unfortunately our lifestyle has left us to be
happy with dry and coarse hair. Lucky are those born with healthy and
silky hair but if uncared they also meet the same fate. Hair care
treatment is important for both born with healthy and silky hair and
also for those who do not possess the same. Watching those cover page
of the magazines that displays the zoom headshot of a model with long
silky hair that cascade down the shoulder or that of a shampoo that
displays long, luxurious locks on models and the flowing curls of the
girls automatically makes us say WOW!
There is a growing body of scientific evidence linking chemicals and
radiation in our environment spreading high rates of breast cancer.
While 216 chemicals have been identified as mammary carcinogens by
regulatory agencies, many other chemicals, (especially those known as
endocrine-disrupting compounds) are not classified by regulatory
agencies even though they are scientifically proved to be causes of
spreading this disease. “White (non-Hispanic) women of all ages have
the highest incidence of breast cancer of any racial or ethnic group in
the United States. American Indian/Alaska Natives have the lowest
incidence of the disease. Latinas have a much lower incidence of breast
cancer than either black or white women, but the figure is
rising.”(http://www.breastcancerfund.org, 2008)
This is the article I planned to write much before I ever
thought of the blog site. I wonder, I would have never able to share the experience
I had to the public if I would not have this platform. This is way back 1999
-2000 when I faced the tough side of the life when I had to spent a month or so
all day all night in a reputeted nursing home for total negligence in treatment
of my father.
Sounds somewhat odd but its true. From decades we have learned from our elders the more we laugh the more we gain life.Even researches have proved that more we laugh we get relieved of our depressions ,frustrations and thus our heart beats normally, our mental condition improves and hence we live more. But alas that’s not the case ofAnastasia Lagalla,a 3year old Long Island girl. When Lagalla was just 10months old her mother noticed that at a gap of 2-3 hours duration Lagalla was laughing in an abnormal way.Unable to follow the root cause of her laugh as such a tender age her parents overlooked the matter. But as days passed Lagalla’s unusual act attracted her parents attention.
Every once in a while you hear that a pharmacist refuses to sell a product since it is against her religion believes, even though the pharmacy owner is more than happy to sell it. By law the pharmacy owner can not fire the said pharmacist.
For a year, Julie Garcia(name changed) stopped in a CVS pharmacy near her home in a Fort Worth suburb to get refills of her birth-control pills. Then one day the pharmacist refused to 'sprescription because she did not believe in birth control and it was against are religion to sell birth control pills too!(By Charisse Jones, USA TODAY, USATODAY.com, 2007)
What are your ethical codes here? Give your thoughts by keeping in mind about religion equality. As per Catholic, abortion or selling pills are against their religion and many conservative Muslims do not believe that woman should have sex but have no children. India is a Democratic country and we need to respect our fellow Indian's way of thinking!
Humans are complex creatures whose psychological experience lies at the intersection of biology and culture. To paraphrase one theorist, Erik Erikson (we will discuss about his theory later sometime) psychologists must practice “triple bookkeeping”to understand an individual at any given time, simultaneously tracking biological events, psychological experience, and the cultural and historical context. At the intersection of biology and culture lies psychology, the scientific investigationof mental processes and behavior. All psychological processes occur through the interaction of cells in the nervous system, and all human action occurs in the context of cultural beliefs and values that render it meaningful. Psychological understanding thus requires a constant movement between the microlevel of biology and the macrolevel of culture.
