Although pornography is as old as civilization in recent
years the global proliferation in internet and other media has given
pornography such a boom that it is affecting the society in big way. Although I
have nothing against pornography from a moral point of view the excessive
obsession to pornography gives rise to bad mental and physical health,
particularly for minors. Most of these statisticsare valid for year 2006, but one can
extrapolate these data for 2008
Here are some facts about pornography.
Every
second $3075.64 is being spent on pornography.
Every
second 28,258 internet users are viewing pornography.
Every
second 372 internet users are typing adult search into search engines.
Every
39 minutes a new pornographic video is being produced in USA.
Total
revenue from pornography worldwide is $ 97.06 billion. The top 4 nation s
consuming pornography money wise are China,
South Korea, Japan and USA respectively.
Average
monthly unique visitors to adult websites has increased from 56.25
millions during 2004-2005 to 75 millions during 2005-2008 period.
There
are 4.2 million websites (12% of total web sites) and 420 million pages of
pornographic material in the web.
42.7%
internet users watch porn.
Average age of first internet exposure to
pornography is 11.
Largest
consumer of internet pornography is 35-49 age group.
Men
admitting to accessing pornography at work are 20 % and adults admitting
to internet porn addiction 10%.
Women
keeping their cyber activities secret :70% of users.
Women
struggling with pornography addiction 17% of women users.
Every
one in 3 visitors of porn sites are women.
Women
accessing adult websites each month 9.4 million.

Arabia, Iran,
Syria, Bahrain, Egypt,
UAE, Kuwait, Singapore, Kenya,
India, Cuba and China.
These data show what
a tremendous impact internet porn are
having all over the world. Also internet being cheaper everyday and penetration
of internet increasing very quickly throughout the world these statistics are
going to increase in leaps and bounds.

some more facts..there are 100,000 child porn sites and the revenue from child porn is $3billion.New York Times Magazine: It ran a cover story on May 18 called "Naked Capitalists: There's No Business Like Porn Business." Its thesis: Pornography is big business--with $10 billion to $14 billion in annual sales. New York Times author Frank Rich, suggests that pornography is bigger than any of the major league sports, perhaps bigger than Hollywood. Porn is "no longer a sideshow to the mainstream...it is the mainstream," he says.
thanks to the author for presenting such loads of information regarding pornography.. Few years back a short presentation on pornography was featured in the Bollywood movie"Kalyug"..Its easy to get rid of our responsiblity by saying that its human instinct and we cant ignore it but i believe we can atleast try...parents should teach their offsprings what is right and what is wrong...Govt atleast take actions to bann such sites for example govt should impose heavy taxes to regularise such sites...Friends plz come up with some more sugeestions...i am highly shocked with the statistics presented in the article..
i knw. . dat is so lame to just say its basic instinct. . shudn be banned. .u could capitalize that much of resource in somethings else .. about doing something abt it . i agree to parna .. levying heavy tax duties would be one way. magar govt ka bhi bharosa nahi . u never knw who does wat ( referring to the movie PAGE 3) ..
as for banning more parental control should be alerted in computers and Internets - i went through a video some months back or may be a year. it was featured by USA - save ur child - the increasing number of pornography and use of such basic "instincts" in its name i certainly wrong . . likewise, some chat based clients ( yahoo etc) do offer certains exclusive rooms for sex etc. .on that note these can be restricted by protest or otherwise by govt .
discouraging such things wont solve and neither the amt of "CDs n DVDs" available in most of the foothpaths wud wee away ( tho nowadays police patrols have reduced the open selling of dem).
as of it being a mainstream - the support and money it gets is the big Qs . where do they get so much of fundings ? as always . one has to go to its root to find out and little by little as time permits try cutting the roots
Actually the mainstream producers are investing money in smut business..and compared to a hollywood movie a porn movie is very cheap to produce and returns are very high since even a illiterate can understand the simple language of porn. However, I dont think it will be possible or right to totally ban porn because man's quest for sex will find a more dangerous outlet to express itself.Watching porn is a safe way to satisfy libido without going to prostitutes and hence helps to reduce risk of aids.
Kudos to Animesh for stating the facts on porn industry. It goes to prove that there is indeed a huge market for pornography on the Internet. However, I have to agree with Saspinkthat porn can't be stopped by talk alone.
The bigger question is: "Should porn be stopped?" My thought is NO!Countries like India, where poverty is rampant, should capitalize on this market opportunity and become a prolific producer of pornography. In parts of India (Calcutta, Mumbai and Chennai)prostitution is totally legal--as long as the sex workers have registered and procured government issued licenses. This contributes to the risk of spreading the AIDS virus. Viewing pornography on the Internet offers no such risk to health. At most, the viewers bear the risk of becoming avid masturbaters. I see no harm in that; it provides sexual relief and does help to reduce instances of rape offenses in most societies.
If you notice in the list of nations cited that have chosen to ban viewing of porn on the Internet, majority of them are not democracies, and worse yet, are Muslim nations. These nations advocate circumcision of their male children on account of a religious mandate. Ergo, their citizens cannot find easy sexual relief with a simple act of masturbation. Their relief must come from coitus, be it vaginal or anal. It is logical to surmise then that if Internet porn was freely available in these societies, their youth and perhaps adults too, would have been driven to states of extreme sexual excitement and agony! Perhaps rape of their women and young children would have been on the rise.
Counter to the above statement, one might argue that how come this is not so in USA, Canada, and Israel? Circumcised male is the norm in these societies, pornography is readily available, and yet rape is not a significant statistic. Answer lies in the high rate of premarital consensual sex and a total absence of an age old requirement for women to have intact hymens at time of marriage. Now we know why India has chosen to join the list of nations that have banned Internet porn!
The general affection on porn sites are well known, but I would like to congratulate the author for the data provided by him in this regards. There is no point of hiding the fact that most of the people believe that discussing anything on this matter is a risk to his social standard. The data given by the author is enlighten that fact.
Thanks for the statistics though I have little interest in this subject but I am quite surprised at the huge popularity of this 'gift'of internet to the human world!!!!
Online sex will gain more popularity on coming days with user contributed/generated adult content. Because of the simple reason in these busy schedule of life people spending more time in office or home in front of computers where time to spend social life is less. Besides, easy accessibility, safe, confinement and always available in any place with today's very cheap net (bandwidth) availability lone people will have something to live with. Besides out of curiosity or obsession or variety even couples trying to experiment new interactive mediums in new ways.
To get rid of loneliness in today's fast and competitive world, watching porn movies is the sole solution can never be true.Lonely people can get involved in social activities, cultural activities such as gettogether, cultural functions, art exhibitions to name a few..Those who feel watching porn movies within safe confinement are mere hypocrites... They have deep desires of sex but feel shy to move forward in presence of their society and family.Atleast those who regularly visit prostitutes are desperate enough to present their real image and not hide their real presence..And "Besides out of curiosity or obsession or variety even couples trying to experiment new interactive mediums in new ways"-can be considered as a advantage of viewing porn movies..but according to one of my friends sex is basic instinct so I hope basic instinct cant be generated or intensified by watching porn sites..
Once again I will request my friends to come up with new ideas to curb or reduce such porn business
my GOD .. i am shocked !! imagine .. this guy is like " Countries like India, where poverty is rampant, should capitalize on this market opportunity and become a prolific producer of pornography. In parts of India (Calcutta, Mumbai and Chennai)prostitution is totally legal--as long as the sex workers have registered and procured government issued licenses. This contributes to the risk of spreading the AIDS virus. Viewing pornography on the Internet offers no such risk to health. At most, the viewers bear the risk of becoming avid masturbaters. shit man !!!!!!! what the hell is the problem ?? do u even know what goes on in that industry ! and poverty could have much better solution if that is where the problem lies ?? how the HECK do u think there std of living would go ? if this is ur outlook its near that INDIA is the new pros world heritage of world !! shit .. disgusting
i agree to Parna again . i mean come on guys .. its a industry where majorly people are forced to join . i agree that many "ENJOY" it but that IS because they are exposed to. i mean i am sorry to say but imagine ur daughter or son closing the room at night and have a SEX show with his/her webcam . don't u feel BAD ?? yeaow
as per sexual pleasure i am SURE our ancestors TOO had that basic instinct and survived pretty well that u and me are here now discussing this rampant topic in askpabs. the porn business is "ashleel" u knw the meaning rite ?? ashleel .. i wont say i am a sati savitri but please .. i cannot see the porn industry as a source of GREAT capital .. and for the legalization of sex workers - that is for security coz most are the children of previous sex workers - sex traffickers and sadly lured out people.
we are talkin here about PORNOGRAPHY. each and every bloody day it has an income of so so so so so much of capital. its not an entertainment ( though general people see it as one ).
"Besides, easy accessibility, safe, confinement and always available in any place with today's very cheap net (bandwidth) availability lone people will have something to live with"
I write once again--this time in response to a crack made by Saspink: "...do u even know what goes on in that industry ! and poverty could have much better solution if that is where the problem lies ?? how the HECK do u think there (their) std of living would go ?..."
A little knowledge can be a very dangerous thing, especially if ones arguments are sans factual evidence. Yes, I do happen to know a great deal about how porn films are made, and I shall elaborate here. In the very least, the game players within a medium budget "blue film" include the director, the actor, the actress, the fluffer, the cameraman, and the lighting technician. All of these people are in the payroll of the film producer, who must recoup his/her investment via the sale of the blue film.
We all know what is expected of the actor and the actress. However, before the actor can penetrate the actress, he must have an erection. This is provided by the "fluffer" whose sole job is to perform felatio (blow job) on the actor--off cam of course--for however many times needed by the actor, and thereby enable him to sport multiple erections and thus enable the camera to shoot a rather lengthy copulation scene. The whole shooting environment is rather sterile and closely resembles a Bollywood or Hollywood undertaking. Yes Saspink, I do happen to know what goes on within the industry...
In my previous comment I had alluded to India capitalizing on the burgeoning porn industry represented on the Internet. Yes Saspink, the standard of living (SOL) of India's blue film artists would definitely increase, and it would also raise the SOL of the ancillary staff as well! Bottom line: for a nation that can't adequately feed its rural poor, wouldn't this be a pragmatic solution?
Ah ha! There will always be a few purists who will argue: "But won't this demean India's cultural heritage?" I shall counter such a question with another" "Which cultural heritage? Pre-Victorian, Post-Victorian, or Post-Independence?" Let it not be forgotten that it was India that had presented the world with the Kama Sutra and the erotica present on temple walls of Khajuraho and Konarak. Then again, during Post-Victorian times, in rural Bengal, it was quite customary for married village belles to fornicate randomly (one-evening stands) with unmarried lads from adjoining villages, when they would leave their homes to fetch water from river banks, after sunset. Hard to believe this eh? Well then, please read Nirad C. Chaudhuri's 'Nirbaachita Prabandha', (Bengali) (P-205 Ananda Publishers Pvt Ltd, Calcutta - 700 009, 1997. Still not sold on Bengal's (and perhaps India's) cultural/moral heritage? After all, Nirad Chaudhuri as illustrious as he had been, might not be regarded as a favored son of India. For such Doubting Toms, I quote a song from Rabindranath Tagore's Gitanjali: "ar naire bela namlo chhaya dharanite". I draw attention to the sanchari (2nd verse) of this song: "...premnadi te uThechhe dheu utal haowa. jani na ar firbo ki na, kar sathe aaj habe china..." Tagore had written this song half in jest, perhaps to ridicule the promiscuity of married village belles. And the beat goes on even today...
"...yeaow as per sexual pleasure i am SURE our ancestors TOO had that basic instinct and survived pretty well..." Enough said on the high moral values of India's cultural heritage!
So folks, don't take the "holier than thou" stand. Face up to the fact that India can't easily mitigate its rural poverty. So step aside and allow the porn industry and the Internet to solve it for India's bureaucrats! There is a huge market for quality Indian porn. I for one, do enjoy watching "desi porn", whenever I come across one!
Frankly Saspink, I was expecting a better rebuttal than "pervert"! Listen, why don't you go read up on the cultural mores (and chores) of unmarried village girls of Gujrat and Rajasthan and then come back and write something here? I am informed (by first persons)that it is quite common for the village girls to sell their sexual favors to other village folks, just to support their parents livelihood. In fact, their (not there )parents encourage it and often solicit for them. And oh! don't forget the banjaras too! Give these people a good scrubbing, dress them up proper, and you will make beautiful porn actresses out of them! Best of all, they are all experienced and willing! LOL
Though I understand the sentiment, I must say that whatever ethics we talk, debate and discuss here, fact will remain the same from one form or other. Everything has its good and bad side. without supporting either of the side, one thing is very clear this very urge and instinct was there before, today and will remain in future in different different forms by means of different mediums. Today we talking about internet, if am not wrong its already on the mobile platform in form of MMS where mostly the affluent part of the society using this just for self pleasure commercially and personally. I do know that most of the time its a breach between the 2 party agreed to involve in this for personal pleasure. Some how some oppurtunist making money out of it. As a whole it will grow on internet and mobile for some reason or other for right or wrong reason. As a whole it gonna stay forever as long the mankind exists in different different forms. So this is not my opinion but understanding from the history of mankind.
Well I have to say that Pron occupies a big market take instance for Nevada where this porn actresses/actors and sex is sold openly. Forget about just men/women watching porn movies but couples do enjoy this type of XXX rated movies for their fulfillment or make them more experience. I was reading the Time magazine where an article about a porn actress was described and how they face that world? The occupation was chosen by the woman and is accepted by her husband. While her husband sits at home when she goes for her shoot everyday. One needs to read their emotions and how they take (especially the husband)the incidents as their daily bread. (think when he is having his meal his wife is F***** by another man)I am saying this as I want to see if India or any other country can match this type of job or can a husband send his wife for sex acts and be kind to her? I know how high level prostitutes are staying in Mumbai(watch Laga Chunari Mein Daag) which is based on true factors what is happening in Mumbai.
But I also accept the factor that there are many other certain situations where a women is forced to choose that world but nowadays it only applies to the poor people or people parents who send their daughters for sex act. But at the same time, many women choose that world too!
"...One needs to read their emotions and how they take (especially the husband)the incidents as their daily bread. (think when he is having his meal his wife is F***** by another man)I am saying this as I want to see if India or any other country can match this type of job or can a husband send his wife for sex acts and be kind to her?..."
This is a common place affair in Calcutta. Sattyajit Ray had showed this a long time back in his movie "Jana Aranya." Used to be typical of lower-middle class, kerani families where the husband (fortunate to have married a good looking wife) would lead his wife into prostitution and thereby enjoy a few of the finer things in life. Ability to afford a drinking habit was one of them.
The same beat still goes on even in today's Kolkata. There has been an upward migration however. Today the "middle-middle class" bangali families, where the husband works in a nominal salesman position with local firm, peddles or overlooks his wife's mercinary promiscuity. Where else but in Kolkata would you be able to hire an English speaking school teacher for just Rs 1000 for a screw, who can recite Shakespeare while unfastening your belt? I am not making up a story, just for the heck of it! I happen to live in the US but chat regularly with folks from Kolkata on Yahoo, who come from all walks of life. I have personally befriended two such people; one in her mid 20s and the other in her late 30s. Both are socially respectable and married.
Wouldn't it be a lot safer for them to act in blue movies instead? You tell me!
I am not talking about enjoying luxury life but saying just daily bread earning things like paying bills, paying rent, paying gas and food the daily necessity so say instead of wife being Software Engineer she is just a port star! Will the Indian male allow this? I know many white male will not allow this unless he is worthless and wants easy money and life. But many college goers are night club nude dancers (so as in Mumbai) I was watching one European film where the girl worked as a bank teller during the day and then a call girl at night. reason she needs money to survive but have less education to work as a Bank Manager or so on....compare this to India...none of the woman except in non-metro city or upper higher class or women shown in LCMD will be a call girl to earn more money. They will die or be poor but wont sell their dignity by choice.
Yes There are many parents who sell their daughters to a brothel buy they have no choice. prostitute by choice is rare in India!
"...I know many white male will not allow this unless he is worthless and wants easy money and life..."
While the above statement may be true for majority of North America, this is not so with the French and the Dutch, perhaps, even with the Japanese. These people's culture has evolved rather differently and they have always differentiated between an "act of love" and an "act of sex". Ergo, in France and Holland it is quite acceptable for moderately well paid, college educated husbands to entertain male clients for their wives at home. They keep their children busy downstairs, while their wives are serving the guest in the bedroom upstairs. Why do they do this? In these countries they get a month long vacation starting in August. The extra money earned by the wife makes taking a month-long vaction affordable and enjoyable!
I derive that action to be an unforeseen result of their action! Supriyoda, to answer your question, I do not support prostitution by choice but I respect those women too who were forced to live in that hell. Women who are not satisfy by their husband's income then why cant they go and fetch a job better go and work at home by cleaning and cooking but why the hell they have to go for prostitution or be a porn star! Its what they cannot see what is coming n their way ahead! The look the body will go and become old then what will they do in their old days? Is there any retirement policy when you are a porn star? May be in US but what abt in India? Gimme a break and don't say they can earn as much as money to save for their old days! I wont believe that! AIDs or die of any STD diseases? Outcasted by the normal society or call it a middle class society! Whatever it is be a porn star, a prostitute or a high level call girl, that person will be disown by her own siblings!
Not going to a whore shop or not visiting a nude club by substituting with an XXX rated porn site... Damn It - I don't buy that either! Tell me (by doing a survey) that how many men will stop visiting a whore shop or nude club or simply won;t have pre/post-martial sex or a one night stand if they are permitted to have online sex show if permitted by their wife or family? The percentage will be in negative. I don;t believe either that a man will be speaking the truth about his dirty habits in public. I had once started a topic of men cheating their wife or girlfriend! Ask the very same man why would he go and sleep with other women when their partners are not in same town or away? Why can;t they seek your advice and substitute with internet porn sites?
So I thinking is that as far as human being is on this earth all such kind of internet sites as well as sex shops will prevail and there is no substitute for any kind of sexual action!
I do not think in near or even distant future it gonna legalize in India. Though few workers from this field often arrange rally's with the help of some social organizations as they want same benefits as other labours get from other industries, provided government acknowledge this also as an organized industry. But still its very hard to believe that any living intellectual entity can accept such means to earn money for daily livelyhood by choice in any generation ever in mankind. It can be only become choice when its matter of fun, lust, extacy, fantacy and reproduction.
Prostitution is legal in Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, and Ahmedabad... so why can't the porn industry be legalized? Besides, prostitution (brothels) serve only a local market in India. By making good quality porn movies with good looking desi women and European men, India could be exporting to a worldwide market!
"So folks, don't take the "holier than thou" stand. Face up to the fact that India can't easily mitigate its rural poverty. So step aside and allow the porn industry and the Internet to solve it for India's bureaucrats! "
How come u guys be so mean... To supress rather demolish poverty from India u are suggesting something offensive..yes in vilage sides parents force their female offsprings in such offensive act but they have no other alternative...but promoting porn business in India will reduce poverty is really a bad bad idea...if u guys have lil emotions(generally u heartless people dont have ,u have only craving for the body) just think if u someday finf ur own wife or daughter in some offensive postion with some other man on net and u are enjoying that...Hope that will be the most pitiful moment in your life...Even among lower class people they produce a lot of children without any sort of family planning(atleast 3-4offsprings)and they feel more proud to be male on producing more offsprings...If these illiterate people become lil conscious about family planning and produce 1 to 2 offsprings then their poverty problem is solved to some extent not fully...and they are not compelled to involve their daughter or even wife in such inhuman act..Even u will find maid servants or ayas serving u have the same story behind..they have lot of children and to satisfy their daily needs they have to work...In most cases their husbands are drunkyard..they spend their income whatever they earn on hard drinks, bidis and cigerates...If this illogical males use lil of their brain and without spending their income on their addictions, spend on their daily needs their poverty problem is solved to some extent...And now speaking abt high class people where wifes prefer spending their night with someone else they are really sick people(mentally)...To satisfy their craving for luxury, comfort etc they can do anything and everything....Even some wives dont enjoy that sex pleasure from their husband than that of she gets from someone else..Even absence of husband in town for some ofc purpose or business deals gives rise to such desires...In this case I have nothing to say as luxury, comfort craving for money is such thing which grows gradually and unstoppable...I hope porn movies will not demolish poerty in such case...But adopting porn business as a weapon for demolishing poverty is not justifiable...Certainly rigid steps shud be taken by the govt to curb such porn sites, illegal cds dvds should be strictly banned just as some life saving drugs are banned...though watching porn movies dont spread AIDS like fatal diseases and keeps oneself physically fit but it distorts one's mental state...and mental diseases are uncurable as well as hereditary...
Why would you consider sexual intercourse between two consenting adults as "disgusting"? Have you ever thought that perhaps those unmarried, village belles enjoy the chance at getting orgasm from different men, before they themselves get fortunate enough to find a husband? The biological urge to have coitus after reaching puberty exists among all humans--male and female, white and brown! It is only the society that has placed restrictive blinders on human urges.
BTW, by nurturing a porn industry in India, poverty would not be demolished or eliminated! All it would do would be to alleviate the situation somewhat, and thereby, lift the socio-economic status of the participants--albeit a temporary relief from their drudgery!
"..And now speaking abt high class people where wifes prefer spending their night with someone else..."
Although it is highly doubtful that people from the upper strata of the socio-economic class will ever resort to making blue films other than as wayward acts of defiance (e.g. Paris Hilton in "An Evening In Paris" or Aparna Sen in "Ek din ratre"), I find it befitting to comment on the nature of their promiscuity.
Have you ever wondered why you are drawn to a particular person, while another repels you, even sight unseen (as in a chat room)? Why two "friends" on the net just do not get along, and communication with each other seem to fade away, or have to be forcefully evoked? It's all in the stars. India's 7,000 year old Vedic Astrology provides the answer through its ancient calculation system known as "Guna-Milap".
This is an elaborate mathematical calculation based on postulations of human behavior norms. The ancient rishis had taken the time to factor 8 elements (the gunas) of interactive behavior between people. Of these 8 gunas 2, namely "yoni" and "nadi", were indicative of sexual compatibilty between two people contemplating matrimony. When considering the contribution of each and every "guna", a maximum score of 36 was possible. For a couple to enjoy matrimonial bliss, a score of 18 and above was considered as suitable, within which a score of 4 for the yoni guna was consider as indicative of "high lust" between the couple!
That said, I now ask "What if today's High Society chooses to ignore the performing of Guna-Milap calculation prior to contemplating matrimony?" Isn't it quite possible then for mismatched pairs (who would have scored below the 18 mark)to enter in matrimony? Sure it would! And then when the initial lust wanes, the couples indulge in "mate swapping" to appease their libido. After all, the pheromones associated with a stranger's body is more arousing sexually, than those of ones own mate.
For those readers who may be thinking that I am feeding you a line of BS (bull shit), I urge you to visit www.indastro.com. Register and try out their FREE computerized "Match Making" (Guna Milap) service with your own birth data and that of a friend. The results will enlighten you!
I would like to tell some disadvantages of porno in internet.Porn sites send adware, spyware and all sorts of malware and make serious damage to your computer.
Porn industry expoloit children heavily. They are subjected to child rape and make them prey to sexually transmitted diseases.I have heard that sometimes they are even killed.
Even the adult women who make a fortune out of porn shootings are highly vulnerable to venereal and aids.I have read a about a sex actress who is beautiful and a millionare is now facing death because of aids.
However to stop porn completely would have some unwanted results as well.In India both men and women are marrying late because of career making, about at the end of their 20s or 30s.Libido is at its srongest at 20s.People at their 20s,denied of the release of their libido at internet would be prone to have sex with unknown people..thus making themselves vulnerable to sexually transmitted disesease.
I think the Ajanta ellora caves should get a make over...how do you cover up alll the sex depicted there??? BJP..RSS...are you guyes listening..???
.Sex?Indians do not have sex...they procreate...
Porn? Come on...the west is evil..but.dont the greasy, dirty, dark bylanes of our metropolises offer children up for sex?? Rape? Come on girls, cover up..its your fault ..showing off the well covered or..not..bodies....tut tut.INdia is the largest hyocrisy..oops democracy in the world....yeah..we ban.oh yes we do..but dont ban...casteism, religious persecution, hate crimes against gays..and child labor...after all yeh mera india..mahaan...
