I still remember this person as rookie who just visited San Jose at NABC during 1999. I was asked to click a picture with him who I didn't recognize, later to found out that he was the top batter who did his centuries against Australia. The next evening we all had a gathering at my place for dinner where Saurabhda, with wife Dona and MIL. He was definitely then a down-to-earth, shy and sensible person and still remember his face and his smile offcourse. I started an article based on the July 4th evening but unfortunately I deleted the whole file. As Piu already made the tribute, but would like to share some pictures with you all.

Just like Obama, Saurabhda has encrypted his name in the history of cricket world!

In just a mere square drive through the offside...told a lot of words, which no word in the dictionary can emulate...don't know what might be the
reaction of kiran more, bishen singh bedi or raj singh dungarpur...or a person living in Adelaide...now in jaipur...

May be they have seen it…and may be they felt a thunder slap on their cheeks...may be they will again ponder upon ...he is old, he is finished ...

Never liked a living Bengali more than him, never felt more proud in any other thing than this man's success. He is a true genius, and yesterday he again proved that " dewale jodi pith theke jay, tobe ghure darate hoy( if the back is stuck to the wall, than we should turn around) "...

Sourav Ganguly is and will always remembered as an outstanding batsman and above all a brilliant captain in world cricket.Thanx to the writer for such a wonderful video enhanced with such a nice song.. .Politics is gradually engulfing cricket...and Dada is a victim of that too..It is highly appriciated that dada took the right decision to quit cricket at this stage otherwise he could have faced more worse situation later..Though it is tremendously painful for a born cricketer to quit but i believe it is graceful to leave with pride than staying back with disrespect and insult...Atleast now dada is receiving appreciation for his cricket career from round the globe.. So he took the right decision..their lies Dada's elegance

To DADA ,

These battered hands are all you own
This broken heart just turned to stone
Go hang your glory on the wall
There comes a time when castles fall
And all that's left is shifting in the sand .

You've come full circle, now you're home Without the gold, without the chrome And this is where you've always been You had to lose so you could win And rise above your troubles while you can.

Now you can love, now you can lose Now you can choose.

You're out of time, you're out of place Look at your face
That's the measure of a man

People making criticism against him don't ever have the caliber/quality to evaluate him. Fucking selection committee and crap decision makers.

Neither do I know a lot about you
Nor about the wickets and scores
Just passionate on a tone
Being able to relate
On that multi-talented “bong”
Of Kolkata
The Prince they say
He who has made the game greater to watch
He who has given the fans some reason to be mad
At the handsome face
Of sweat and pride
Of faith and trust
And pure perfection
And thriving so easily to
Engrave the name
And as always but with names here and there
Being able to be that much of a pain
And yet being the pride of Bengal
Thank you
For giving us one more reason
To be proud
To be courageous
And to believe
That the world out there can be won
No matter where or how you are
Thank you
DADA

Take a bow Sourav!
- by Anand Sachar 11 Nov 2008 Category: Sports

Exactly eight years after he took over as the test captain of the Indian cricket team, Sourav Ganguly’s international cricket career has come to a halt. With his retirement ends a period in which world cricket started taking the Indian team seriously not only at home but also overseas.
From his disastrous start Down Under at the age of eighteen to his century on test debut four years later and now a victorious series against the world champs, it has truly been a topsy-turvy ride for the Prince of Kolkata.
Sourav Ganguly was a player who started his test career with back to back tons in two matches. His career average never dropped below 40, which is highly commendable in a career spanning 13 years. India has not lost a test when he has scored a century. And people may say he has scored only 7000 odd runs whereas Tendulkar and Dravid have crossed 10000 runs, but the fact is he unlike them has usually batted in test cricket at no.5 or no.6, thus having less time to score big hundreds.
In ODIs he is easily the second best player India has produced after Tendulkar with close to 12000 runs. To add to it he has 100 wickets. And along with Sachem Tendulkar, he went on to form the best opening pair in the history of ODIs. They became one of the most consistent and feared openers in world cricket. He was a master of spinners and would usually hit them for his trademark sixes over deep mid-wicket.
Ganguly was considered God on the off-side, he could find gaps on the off-side like very few. People felt he could not face short pitch stuff but then a batsman who cannot face short pitch bowling, for sure cannot make 19000 runs at the highest level.
Most importantly Sourav Ganguly remains India’s most successful captain till date. It may change and Dhoni may better Sourav but it is Ganguly who taught the Indian team what winning is all about. He built a cohesive team which had a never say die attitude. He supported youngsters to an extent which is unimaginable. He always put the team first. For him nothing was more important. He showed the world that to win against the Aussies you need to play like them; you need to fight aggression with aggression, stares with stares and verbal volleys with verbal volleys. He had the guts to keep Steve Waugh waiting at the toss, not once but time and again because he knew that it disturbed the Australians. The highlight of his captaincy would be the way he lead the team to the finals of the 2003 World Cup. He led from the front with a few centuries and a very important century in the semis against the Kenyans. It was sad the team could not clinch the Cup but then it was bound to be tough as the Aussies were used to being in world cup finals and winning them, whereas it was a first for that Indian team.
There was this forgettable time in his career which started with the spat he had with then coach Greg Chappell, leading to him being dropped. But for the fighter that Sourav is, he only happened to make one of the strongest comebacks in the history of world cricket at the age of 34. Tough ask it is to make a comeback so late in the career. From a half century in his comeback test in trying conditions in South Africa to a 98 in his comeback ODI, the runs never stopped flowing from his bat since his comeback which also included moments like a first round exit from the world cup 2007 to a series win in England.
Finally the series against the world champs which India won comprehensively was his last. Unlike his debut where he scored a hundred, he got a duck in his final innings. A certain Sir Donald Bradman also had had a similar ending. To add to it there was this feeling of some kind of a flashback on a couple of occasions on the last day of Sourav's illustrious career. First when Dhoni asked him to captain the side for the final few moments of the match, thus ensuring India’s most successful captain went out as captain.
And then it was Lords revisited as Sourav removed his t-shirt and threw it in the crowd, asking for it, after the match.
Thus with the retirement of India’s best left-handed batsman ever, an era has ended.

No doubt dada has been setting great examples both on and off the field, I really believe that this one of the rarest(probably the only one)vulgar examples set by that great gentleman of the game....You just don't undress infront of the Queen. You shouldn't have highlighted a rare error on his part, there are far better things to highlight. Dada is not meant for vulgarism, may be he is an example of total arrogance what is adored by us,the Bengalees.

This is ridiculous to declare the captaincy at the last moment before the IPL first match starts.
