Mount Pocono is a borough in Monroe County, Pennsylvania, in the United States. Located in the Poconos region in northeastern Pennsylvania, Mount Pocono is a relaxing escape in the majestic Pocono Mountains. Camping, hiking, and outdoor activities abound in a destination made for any nature-lover. The best place for Canoeing, Kayaking and Hiking lovers who would love to hit the road during the summer time. The first thing I notice was it is so Green! One just doesn't need to plan beforehand, an hour and half from NY/NJ - just get your camping stuffs and sun block lotions.
It was the month of July – off-course 4th of July and we were six, trying to figure out what else can we do except watching the fire crackers at night. It just hit our head; I had no clue where we were heading for. Bang! We all woke up in the morning, grabbed some cereals, got on our shorts and soon were behind the wheels. Four of the guys in one car and we gals took another car. Enjoyed the whole trip! Ooh La La! Forgot that I had motion sickness, so that be a caution to all who are sick of going around the hills and there are many loops to pop you down and feel sick in your tummy! The loops and the sun killed me and I had to get some pills to avoid the sickness. Once near the place, we went to rent two rooms for us which were nice as it was attached but a door separated for the gals and guys rooms. This motel had a heated indoor pool so we can enjoy a swim during the night time. We then went to a nearby Indian restaurant for the lunch. Food was ok but my tummy was still feeling sick.
Somehow, the bad part was gone and we were soon near the Pocono camp grounds. Awesome, mind blowing, amazing, romantic, those are the words came from each one of us when we stood in the middle of the ground. We were fortunate to get some time for canoeing as rafting takes six hours to go around the river and it was almost 2:00 PM in the afternoon when we reached at the ground. So remember to go as early as you can if you are planning for rafting. It took us about four hours to go around the river while canoeing. So it was a Happy Ending and we were just thrilled to get together at such a wonderful and spectacular place. I would recommend visiting this place once if one is near PA/NY/NJ. Even if you are not near these states, it is worth to make your next vacation plan here with family and friends.
The Pocono's made a wonderful playground for just about any couple or family or groups. For the adventurous, outdoorsy type, there are numerous hiking trails including the Appalachian Trail as well as whitewater rafting in the Lehigh Valley Gorge. For those who like to sightsee, there are dozens of places to visit, like Bushkill Falls, known as the "Niagara of Pennsylvania," Callie's Candy Kitchen, home to some of the best chocolate confections, or Knoebel's Groves, a family owned amusement park that has been around since the 1950's. For those looking for the ultimate in relaxation, there are chair lift rides, horseback riding, and fishing, activities that allow the opportunity to take in the natural beauty of the Pocono's. No matter the season, the Pocono Mountains have dozens of activities for any couple or family. Whether it's hiking through the fall foliage, water skiing on Lake Wallenpaupack in the summer, skiing down the slopes in the winter, or enjoying the blooms and scents of spring, the Pocono's has a wealth of country charm for everyone.
