Mysore & Ooty
On a recent occasion i happened to travel to Mysore and Ooty along with my parents and cousins. It was my 2nd trip to Mysore and the very first to Ooty. Starting from Bangalore at some 125 kms on the way to Mysore comes
Srirangapatnam , the captial city of Tipu Sultan. Nothing remains
except its broken fort , the water gates through which the Britishers
attacked and the rifle storage. Its a remote town with very little
development. Then comes Tipu's GolGumbuz , where he along with his
entire family is resting in peace. The place has lush green gardens ,
"tophs" and a pay and use toilet for us travelers .
Completing 228 kms is Mysore. As a place it has many places to visit.. Mysore palace , St. Philomena's Church ( to me a worth visit ) and the Vridavan gardens , around 20 kms ahead of Mysore. Along with it are its market and the zoo and the lovely traffic free roads. Speciality of mysore would be its silk and the sandal wood. My parents arranged for the "Presidency" hotel , a normal hotel with hot and cold water running and 24 hrs electricity ,you find this hotel just entering Mysore. With per day 600/- its an ideal place for low budget high fun tourists like us .
It took us just 1 day to cover Mysore and next we were to Ooty .. 8000 kms( appx) above sea level. Since April is pretty hot in India , we hadn't equipped ourselves with warm clothes , as Ooty approached we had niggle ourselves in our dupattas and Dad and my "jiju" happily left me and my cousin the window seat. To reach Ooty from Mysore you have to cross 2 jungles - the Bandipur national forest famous for its tigers and the Madumalai Jungle famous for its "U-KALI-POTAS" trees and tea gardens.
